These are often operated by one of the large hotel chains, and offer a cheap and convenient means of breaking up your journey. These hotel chains also operate in Switzerland and Italy, although these tend to be much more expensive. The hotels are usually situated along major routes and all brands mentioned below have en-suite facilities. All hotels offer an optional buffet breakfast and some hotels have restaurants. The price of the hotel generally reflects the size of the rooms and the hotel facilities.

Booking a room at one of these hotels couldn't be easier as all offer online booking facilities, please see below for the website addresses. You will need a credit or debit card to confirm your reservation, and you will receive a booking reference number, which you should keep and enter into the computer terminal at the front of the hotel. You will also need to enter the credit or debit card details that you provided at the time of booking. During the mornings and evenings the reception will be open to deal personally with your reservation. You will then be given your bill and an access code to your room.
